Harmony - ERP solution

Program Vision

The elicited vision at Greencross Vets was to harmonise business processes and the use of data across supply chain and finance, and specifically configure enterprise software for that purpose. We named the program 'Harmony'.

Program Breakdown

A deep-dive of the existing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solution to build up knowledge assets of how it was used, configured, customised and integrated.

Collated the lists of issues and views of end-users of the product's perceived shortcomings. Grouped and prioritised them into items that could be addressed simply through configuration or training, those that required a change in business process and those that were genuine feature gaps.

Engaged Microsoft and Ernst & Young to determine if a move to Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations would make sense given the growth particularly in their Petbarn business.

Examined the IT architecture roadmap and socialised defining constraints brought about by the retail integration and made adjustments to better align it to the business and IT strategy.

Reviewed integration with inventory management, demand planning, loyalty, patient management systems and the digital channels. Also looked in detail at master data management and reporting.

Outcomes / Benefits

The first tranche culminated in refreshed knowledge assets, a new architecture roadmap, clear investment options and secured a further $2m of funding to pursue the preferred option.

Stakeholders from finance, supply chain and IT could see the clear business benefits of compromising to a simple uplift option, rather than re-implementing on a like-for-like SaaS offering, or re-engineering the entire set of business processes.

The vision of harmonised business processes, shared data and enterprise software in the cloud could be achieved at relatively low cost. In contrast, the original roadmap, and other mooted options, were demonstrated as a poor return on investment for Greencross.
